2012 Cadillac SRX in Columbia SC Benefits From More Power

The 2012 Cadillac SRX benefits from more power while offering more luxury features.

Just two model years removed from a complete redesign, the Cadillac SRX has rapidly become one of the most popular luxury crossover choices in Columbia, South Carolina. Despite outselling the Audi Q5, Acura MDX, and Mercedes-Benz GLK350, Cadillac is not resting on its laurels for 2012. Instead, they are adding even more power to the crossover for improved acceleration both at the stoplight and in the passing lane on the highway. The new 3.6L direct-injected V6 is projected to make 300 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, a noticeable increase from the 265 horsepower and 223 pound-feet that the current 3.0L V6 makes in the SRX. It also matches in horsepower the 2.8L turbocharged engine that was available in 2010 and limited 2011 models, though the new engine should dispense with the noticeable turbo lag found in the older models. Compared to competitors like the Lexus RX350′s 275-horsepower V6, the Cadillac SRX should provide ample power on the roads.

While official fuel economy estimates have not been finalized yet, Cadillac expects the new 3.6L engine to provide comparable fuel economy to the outgoing 3.0L rated, which is rated by the EPA at 18 MPG city and 25 MPG highway. Pricing will be announced closer to the start of production.

Columbia Gets More Than Extra Power in 2012 SRX

Additional luxury and convenience features will also be added to the SRX in 2012, with Bluetooth hands-free cell phone connectivity becoming standard equipment across all models. (In 2011, the option was available only on Luxury, Performance, and Premium trim levels.) All models except the base SRX will also receive a standard heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, which does an exceptional job of warming the hands while driving during the winter months. Additionally, Performance and Premium models will offer a new machine-faced finish on the 20-inch wheels that come standard on those trims. Lastly, door lock switches will be added on the driver and front passenger door for added convenience, joining the existing lock switch on the center console.

Of course, many of the most popular features on the Cadillac SRX will carry over unchanged for 2012. Among the most popular features is the UltraView sunroof, a gorgeous oversized sunroof that covers 70% of the roof to let in as much natural light as possible. Convenience is found in the rear cargo area, with a moveable cargo fence and generous under-floor storage space offering flexibility to keep objects stowed safely and securely. Access to those objects remains easy with a power rear liftgate that can be programmed to stop short of its full extension to clear garage doors or allow shorter users to reach the button. (Of course, the power liftgate can also be activated using the button on the overhead console above the driver or by using the key fob.) For those who venture into slippery terrain often, the Cadillac SRX also offers all-wheel drive with an electronic limited-slip differential in the rear. In addition to the added traction, the system allows torque to transfer left-to-right during hard cornering to offer improved control.
